The Red Market Pop Up Fuses Food, Drink, Art, Music & Leisure Across 20,000 Sq. Ft in East London
What do you get when East London’s most prominent street, Old Street hosts and brings together local East London traders, artists and musicians? A unique outdoor ‘Pop Up’, now in its second year and bigger and better combining social regeneration and shared cultural pursuits.
Running from July 6th to September 2nd 2012, The Red Market Pop Up, a fully licensed space open from midday to 11pm daily will transport visitors through East London’s culinary and creative delights amongst a 20,000 Sq. Ft outdoor space with various installations including a stage, a summer house, a sand area, table tennis, hammocks, graffiti artworks and petanque pitches.
Building on the success of a 2010 take-over of 1-3 Rivington Street, then a derelict building, the team behind The Red Market Pop Up transformed the area into one of London’s key cultural hubs building relationships with East London’s many creative individuals and organisations. The team today offer low cost space on Rivington Street to artists and internet start-ups whilst hosting a selection of exhibitions, live art, live music, literary events and film screenings amongst other activities.
East London is famous for its diverse foodie & art scenes and The Red Market Pop Up will bring together this unique oasis open to all in the middle of Old Street, London. A custom made giant screen will show amongst other things; feature films, video art and selected Olympic and Paralympic games.
Plenty of surprises are planned at The Red Market Pop Up including the exposure of two absolute classic works of street art by Banksy which has been unseen for 5 years and in addition this will be the last opportunity to see this unique piece in situ before the land here is converted.
A daily programme of events & entertainment is to be unveiled to include information on
bands performing, dancers, comedians, poets, bingo callers and authors- all of which will
perform around the ‘Pop Up’.

Red Market Soft Launch
The Red Market is a new street and night market in Old Street, by The Red Gallery. It's initially open Thursday - Sunday, but will be open seven days a week in time for the Olympics & Paralympics.
"The Red Market Pop Up transports visitors through the cultural and culinary delights of East London with free music, art and entertainment.
A summer house, sand pit, table tennis, hammocks and petanque pitches are also planned for the family-friendly festival.
A street art mural will gradually take shape over the summer and two Banksy figures, not seen for five years, will be unveiled for the last time before the space becomes a hotel complex.
A giant screen, made from a steel container, will show Olympic and Paralympic events as well as footage of days gone by in London."
